Corn hole

Corn hole, is a game played more and more all across the US. It started out as a college kid drinking game, but now were seeing more adults starting leagues and taking this serious. The object of the game is to stand about 15-20 feet away from and facing your opponent. Both of you have a board measuring 3 ft by 2.5 ft rectangle with a hole in the top center. You then take your corn bag and toss it across and aim for the hole, if you hit the board with one bag its 1 point if you get all three bags 3 points, and if you get one in the hole 2 points for each bag! Play till the first team reaches 20 to be the winner!
Here are a few more rules If someone steps in front of the board they have crossed the foul line, and can be penalized a turn. However, when someone has committed a foul, it has to be called out by the opposing team to be a valid foul. There is a 20 second throw time for each bag, over 20 seconds and someone has to call foul, costing you a turn!

This game can be a lot of fun for the college kid or the soccer moms, the main difference is usually when your playing the drinking version, every time someone from the other team scores a point that means you drink! Every time you miss the board you drink! It usually only last about 3 games before people are stumbling all over the place tossing horribly, and drink more and more heavily as they go! What a spectacle to watch!

Something I find interesting is that people take this as serious as a sport! More and more we are seeing websites across the internet, leagues and teams across the nation, corn hole in the news and on Carnival cruise lines as a very similar game called “toss across” now that we have seen the entertainment industry attaching its long arm to this game, you can be sure it is here to stay!

Every where from Florida to Ohio to Pennsylvania to our nations capitol to Texas and Arizona, this game has taken a foot hold, partly due to its exposure to college kids, and their ability to blog, and use facebok, and myspace, to get the news around at the speed of light! I think we have seen the birth and explosion of a new game! It just goes to show you that you should never ever doubt the power of the internet!

When I first started playing this game it was on campus, then I visit home, and its there. Then on rival campus’s, then peoples relatives were playing. Then I visit my 70 yr old aunt in Florida, and she’s on a team that plays every Tuesday, and is a part of a league! This was all very comical to me be because I was used to watching frat boys falling down left and right, and here’s this sweet old women who’s dead serious about playing as long is Elvis is playing along!
